What better way to show support for a friend going through hair loss than to shave your head too. And that is just what Kellie Pickle did this month.
The country singer, who the public first met as a contestant on “American Idol”, did not think twice about the loss of her beautiful blond hair.
She was much more concerned with being supportive for her childhood friend. Summer Holt Miller, whom Kellie refers to as her “sister” was just 36 years old when she learned she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Kellie, who saw Summer throughout her prognosis and subsequent treatment, stood alongside her friend Sept 4th in Nashville, as the inseparable duo both buzzed their hair to bring awareness to the importance of early detection.
But the country singer might not know how many other cancer patients were moved by her gesture. It sends a powerful message that a woman is more than just her “crowning glory”. Her gesture also shows cancer patients that shaking up one’s look can be liberating — and fun.
At Turning Heads we observe during every photo shoot how our models are transformed from a state of apprehension to excitement and confidence.
A recent survey found that 57% of the cancer patients who actively address their appearance felt that it empowered them — a necessary mind-set for fighting the Big C.
Way to go Kellie…you are a true inspiration!
