It was a beautiful fall morning in the Desert when Micki arrived at my house for her photo shoot. She seemed so comfortable and at ease, like an old friend dropping by for a morning coffee. Once we got her settled into Olga’s makeup chair, she immediately started sharing her story with us, explaining that she had been wearing her hair very short for a long time and some friends did not really notice the difference when she lost it during chemo. So Micki was very comfortable with her bald look and was anxious to be part of our project.
As Olga worked her magic, I checked out the outfits Micki had brought along. They were mostly neutrals so I decided to add some bright bold colors from our wardrobe chest that she would not normally wear. The result was great!!
As it was such a beautiful morning Stacy decided to try a few shots of Micki out on the patio and by our lake. Stacy had a vision for a photo of Micki blowing and catching bubbles …..and we had a good laugh as the bubbles did not always cooperate.
Abby Koffler, one of the generous donors to the Turning Heads project, was visiting from Florida, and spent the day watching the shoot. She immediately bonded with Micki and even presented her with a beautiful scarf to thank her for sharing her experience.
Linda Noddle, a local jewelry designer, also donated some beautiful hand made necklaces for the shoot, and Micki wore them with great panache.
At the end of the day, Micki’s husband Babe joined her for a few pictures together and it was clear to everyone that they share a special love of life and each other.
Please check back soon to see all of Micki’s photos and read more of her story.
