It has been over two years since Stacy decided to do a photo shoot of me while I was undergoing chemo and very bald. And since that day Stacy and I have been on a journey that has led us to the official launch of Turning Heads and this website.
In November of 2011, Stacy and I turned her living room into a photography studio for the day. We invited Carole, Sandy, and Wava, who were all in various stages of treatment and baldness to be our inaugural Supermodels. Our professional makeup artist Olga volunteered to make them look gorgeous. I did their styling, and Stacy and Linda (another photographer) took photos. By the end of the day, we had become one big happy family!
This past spring, we had the luxury of a studio to capture the images of Betty, who was facing her second experience with chemo induced hair loss. She brought the most wonderful jewelry and I had such a good time picking out things for her to wear.
In April, Stacy, Olga and I joined forces for our first “location shoot” at the home of Willie, an amazing woman with an incredible passion for life. What a fun day getting to know Willie and her best friend Rosemary, who helped with all the clothes and props. Even Willie’s husband lent a hand, polishing the golf cart so it would be camera ready!
And that brings us to today and the official launch of Turning Heads.
I hope that you will join us in “Changing Minds and Changing Lives” by sharing your stories, spreading the word, and getting involved. And remember, if you see a bald woman out in the world, please smile and encourage her in her fight… it really will make a difference.
