Being diagnosed for my second time in October 2014 was a huge surprise for me, I thought I was done with breast cancer! To my dismay it was also discovered at a more advanced stage, after a week or two of worry I met with my team and we finalized our game plan. I will admit that I asked for and received a short respite before surgery so that I could go trick-or-treating with our precious grand babies! It fed my soul to go out with them in their costumes and see them happily visiting their neighbors homes. Throughout my treatment and recovery they have been the best medicine! Like most children, they don’t know about disease so for them you aren’t sick! How wonderful is that, just be yourself, be present with them and you forget for a while that anything else is going on.

So, knowing the plan is always key for me, once I know that, I can rest and follow it. No reason to keep keep worrying, I try to let my doctors and nurses do that for me. I have also tried to remember that working in oncology can be a tough job so I made it my goal to give my medical team something to smile about and believe me it doesn’t take much! Let them support you, let friends and family surround and care for you, find whatever brings you joy and use it every chance you get to lift you heart and fill you with sunshine!

As I was looking through breast cancer websites one day I came across the words “supermodel for a day”, what bald cancer patient couldn’t use some supermodel treatment? The ladies at turning heads made my day special, sweet, fun and funny! One look at the photos will show you how good they are at what they do! No hair, no problem!
